Ron Grunstein AM is a leading expert in sleep medicine and a prominent researcher and clinician. He is a Senior Staff Specialist at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Professor of Sleep Medicine at the University of Sydney, and Head of the Sleep and Circadian Research Group at the Woolcock Institute of Medical Research. With more than 30 years of experience as a consultant physician in sleep disorders, he holds an Investigator Leadership Level 3 award from the NHMRC—the highest research appointment in Australia. His leadership roles have included serving as President of the World Sleep Federation (2007‑2011) and as Chief Investigator A on three successive NHMRC Centres of Research Excellence (2004‑2018). He has received numerous honours, such as the Australasian Sleep Association Distinguished Achievement Award (2010), the Kleitman Award from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (2011), the Royal Prince Alfred Foundation Medal (2012), and he was made a Member of the Order of Australia in 2019. Ron is Australia’s most published sleep researcher, with over 414 publications, and holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery, an MD (University of Sydney), and a PhD (University of Gothenburg, Sweden).
