Elie Matar, MD, is a consultant neurologist and sleep physician at the Woolcock Institute of Medical Research and Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. He also serves as a scientist‑clinician at the University of Sydney and is a recognised authority on predicting, diagnosing and treating neurodegenerative disorders.
Dr Matar earned his medical degree from the University of Sydney and completed postgraduate training at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Westmead Hospital, Concord Hospital and the Woolcock Institute. He has held fellowships in cognitive neurology and movement disorders at the Mayo Clinic (USA), the University of Cambridge (UK) and the National Hospital of Neurology and Neurosurgery (London).
He treats a wide range of neurological and sleep conditions, including Parkinson’s disease, REM‑sleep behaviour disorder, atypical parkinsonian syndromes, movement disorders, cognitive issues, excessive sleepiness, circadian rhythm disturbances, restless legs syndrome and other sleep‑related movement disorders.
In addition, Dr Matar provides botulinum toxin injections for cervical and oromandibular dystonia, hemifacial spasm, blepharospasm, chronic migraine, hyperhidrosis, tremor and bruxism.
